A minimal desk workspace with a laptop, representing a calm, focused approach to managing money

About Start Investing Simple

Start Investing Simple was created for one reason: investing and personal finance are usually explained in a way that assumes you already know the basics. We think that's backwards. Our goal is to break down investing, saving, and money management into plain, honest, jargon-free language so anyone — regardless of background — can build the confidence to manage their own money.

Our approach

  • Beginner-first. Every article assumes no prior knowledge and defines terms as we go.
  • No hype, no products to sell. We don't push specific stocks, brokers, or "get rich quick" schemes.
  • Educational, not advice. We explain how things work so you can make informed decisions — we don't tell you what to do with your money. See our disclaimer.
  • Kept up to date. We review and update articles as tax rules, contribution limits, and best practices change.

Who's behind this

Start Investing Simple is written and maintained by Taha Tariq, a software engineer based in London with a background in full-stack development and enterprise systems administration. Professionally, Taha spends his time breaking down complex technical systems into clear, workable pieces — and this site applies that same instinct to personal finance: taking a subject that's usually explained with unnecessary jargon and making it understandable for anyone starting from zero.

This site isn't written from the perspective of a licensed financial advisor — it's written from the perspective of someone who got interested in investing, found most explanations needlessly confusing, and wanted to document the plain-English version he wished he'd had from the start. See ourdisclaimer for more on what that does (and doesn't) mean.
